Lilly in Ireland

Lilly has been operating in Ireland since 1978 and today the company employs almost 2,500 people.

In 2022, the company announced a major investment in the development of a state-of-the-art biotech manufacturing campus at a greenfield site in Raheen, Co. Limerick. This “Next Generation Biotech” drug substance facility will be Lilly’s most technically advanced manufacturing site to date. Next-generation manufacturing technologies will include advanced data collection and analysis systems that will deliver improvements in safety and quality, along with increased productivity and process performance.

At start-up, the campus is forecast to employ around 350 people across a wide range of disciplines.

Lilly’s first investment in Ireland began in 1978, with the purchase of a farm in the West Cork countryside, near Kinsale. Today, that site has grown to a vast high-technology manufacturing campus that employs over 1000 people and uses complex chemical synthesis and biotechnology manufacturing processes to make active ingredients for Lilly medicines. These active ingredients are further processed at drug product manufacturing plants into medicines for use in therapeutic areas such as oncology, immunology, diabetes and pain. The site is also involved in process development and process optimisation across both manufacturing platforms.

Established in 2010, our Global Business Solutions (GBS) centre in Little Island, Cork city has evolved from shared service provider to global business partner across many of Lilly’s key business units. Through the centralisation, standardisation and optimisation of complex processes, GBS Cork provides innovative solutions that add value in a number of diverse areas including finance, supply chain, HR data management, customer support, clinical trial capabilities and more. Currently it employs over 1,500 employees across 62 nationalities, speaking over 50 languages.

The Lilly Ireland commercial team is part of our Northern European Hub. The team works across the country with healthcare stakeholders. The group's role is to help identify the needs of patients and healthcare professionals and to deliver pharmaceutical-based healthcare solutions. Their current areas of focus are diabetes, immunology and oncology.

Each and every day, like our colleagues around the world, our employees in Ireland strive to live the Lilly values of Integrity, Excellence and Respect for People, while also doing our bit for the communities in which we operate.

Being part of Lilly is about being part of an open, welcoming and inclusive culture, one that thrives on Diversity & Inclusion, one that promotes personal growth, and one that is dedicated to making lives better for the patients we serve.
